American stops flights to Haiti during elections
AP
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - American Airlines will suspend flights to and
from Haiti for two days next week during the Caribbean nation's
elections.
American, which operates five daily round trips from the United States
to Port-au-Prince, said it will resume service Feb. 8.
Airline spokesman Tim Wagner said the flights were suspended because of
concern that road closures during the elections would make it difficult
for travelers and American's employees to reach the airport.
The airline said passengers who booked flights for Feb. 6-7 no later
than Tuesday would be allowed to change reservations without penalty
for travel through Feb. 10.
The airline posted a notice about the suspended flights on its Web site
Wednesday.
American operates three daily flights to Haiti from Miami, one from
Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and one from Kennedy Airport in New York.
American, the largest U.S. carrier, is a unit of Fort Worth-based AMR
Corp.
