Haitian rights activist to endorse presidential candidate

On the eve of Tuesday's elections in Haiti, newly freed prisoner and Catholic
priest Gérard Jean-Juste is expected to endorse former president René Preval
today.
He will hold a press conference at 10:30 a.m., at the Wyndham Ft. Lauderdale
Airport Hotel, 1870 Griffin Road, Ft. Lauderdale.
Jean-Juste was released from Jackson Memorial Hospital on Friday after having
been granted a medical release from a Port-au-Prince prison the previous week.
He is being treated for leukemia. Doctors said they are ''optimistic'' about
his chances for recovery.
Like Preval, Jean-Juste is a longtime supporter of ousted Haitian president
Jean-Bertrand Aristide. Preval is the leading candidate, according to polls,
followed by businessman Charles Henri Baker among several other candidates.
