27652: Raber (Comment) Time to move on (fwd)
From Raber
Whether Preval gets 45% 0r 55% of the total vote (He seems to have below 50
outside of the large urban areas), he is sure to win in a run off. Hopefully
the runner ups concede the election and save the country more money, grief an
poorly organized elections for now. Maybe Preval will notice that some of
those runner ups could help him with this impossible job of his. One comment
about Preval: he is one of a handful of Haitian politicians who actually DOES
more than he TALKS.
Some achievements:
1-Completing a five year term and making himself scarce when his time was up
2-Getting rid of Aristide's unofficial chief of palace security/henchmen/drug
traffickers the Arbrouet brothers as soon as he became president
3-Running the country by decree after parliamentary terms were up (all these
guys were doing was stealing money and destroying new cars)
4-Fixing up the public squares which are the few places slum dwellers or
students can escape to breathe/study
5-Repairing the road to Leogane
6-Many small agricultural projects
7- Securing Cuba's help with good hard working Cuban doctors and agronomists in
many remote areas of Haiti.
8-Paying equal attention to Port-au-Prince and the country side.
Some downfalls:
1-Letting the Aristide people "steal" the May 2000 parliamentary elections they
would have won anyhow.
2-Digging dirt roads above Carrefour and to the Parc La Visite with no
drainage/support causing huge mudslides during the rainy season..
3-Getting drunk and swearing on stage at the Wyclef concert in Port-au-Prince
4-Offending people who were struggling to survive by saying "Naje pou soti"
