I would only add to Peter's excellent analysis that
the recent elections exposed that the movement to oust

Aristide was largely a media creation. The political
parties representing the movement that ousted Aristide
could not garner more than 30% of the vote combined
and most of them polled in single digits numbers.

If the GNB had been an authentic social movement
representing the majority interests than one would
have expected a very different outcome in these
elections.

A friend relayed this chant from a recent demo, "GNB
tourne mak klou klou" So much for the broad support
everyone claimed, including the media, that was
falsely attributed to the "movement" to oust Aristide.


The same folks who hit the streets for Preval are the
same folks who hit the streets for Aristide. Even a
one-eyed man could see that much. Another popular
chant from the recent demos was "Preval prezidan pou
Aristide tourne!" You gotta love and admire the
resiliency of the Haitian people.
