28247: docteed (comment) Morse on Haiti's energy future (fwd)
From: Docteed@aol.com
There is also the possible use of digesters to produce methane gas for small
scale use. Home digesters as an alternative energy technology involve the use
of all kinds of household waste (even "night soil") to produce burnable gas
that can be channeled into homes. Households in rural China have employed this
method for home heating, cooking, and lighting. On a larger scale, the
Miami-Dade Water and Sewer plant uses the methane biproduct of sewage waste to
power
some of its facilities cost effectively. If you google Home Digester you can
find its applications and plans for setting up a digester. Does Haiti do
anything with the products of garbage collection and other kinds of waste? Or
does
it just sit there and take up space?
