I wrote a piece called "Divine Horsepower" for African Arts
magazine in May, 1987; and R. F. Thompson expanded
the survey of painted trucks in the Black Atlantic to include
Yoruba "Kia-Kias" in a followup article in Summer 1996
(a special issue of African Arts dedicated to "The Sacred
Arts of Vodou").  That same issue also contains articles on
various "outdoor arts" of Vodou by Karen McCarthy Brown,
Marilyn Houlberg, Susan Tselos, and me.
