Urban and Durban agree together that "the private sector (preferred over the
word bourgeois) may be guilty of not getting involved, (difficult in Haitian
society) ..they are the same people who invest in the country by providing
jobs, and contribute unselfishly and generously to worthwhile projects,
education, schools and
charities." They both seem to want to qualify any criticism of the
bourgeoisie as "ranting" or "off-the-wall remarks".
It does appear that these folks could not see what every living
being on Earth sees, namely, that Haiti is in the dungeons under the stewardship
of the haitian bourgeoisie in alliance with the international bourgeoisie. The
leadership of the bourgeois has brought Haiti to its knees in this period of
its History. It does not have a solution and is unable to come up with a
solution for the structural crisis in Haiti today.
In addition, the situation on the ground is quite different from what
these gents wish to have us believe. Most in the bourgeoisie deny the workers the
right to organize Unions to defend better working conditions. Most industries
in Haiti operate like plantation slavery. The workers are exploited to the
very last drop.
Tout boujwa ap byen mennen. The bourgeois are living the good life in
their big mansions while the workers are crunched in shacks. They cannot eat,
pay rent or car fare, send their kids to school, no healthcare, pension,
nothing. It is what the workers themselves call 'disguised unemployment' (chomaj
degize). Those same bougeois used to call the lavalas Chimeres and the police
SWAT TEAM to beat and arrest workers who protest against inhumane treatment in
their factories.
Where are the bourgeois unselfishness and generosity? What we do see
is generalized poverty on the people's side, continued violence against the
people, total darkness throughout the country, corruption in all its
institutions, brutal violence against workers, very low salary (spit on their hands).
This is the image of a brankrupt bourgeoisie, very incompetent, unable to do the
very minimum to develop the country, dependent on foreign capital for
everything, no sense of the good and no vision in the interests of the country and
the people, only think about their pockets and nothing and nobody else in Haiti.
They are totally worthless anti-nationals. The worst part of this saga is
that we have a bourgeoisie that will never change its anti-popular, and
anti-national ideology.
It would be good for Urban and Durban to provide one example and only one
example of a good deed the bourgeoisie has done in Haiti, and even that would
be an exception, not the rule in the bourgeois kingdom.

Lance, it seems you have struck a nerve here. GOOD..You are right.
Especially about people saying "off the wall remarks" about the
bourgeoisie.
It's easy to blame the bourgeoisie. After all, isn't Haiti suppose to
be the only country in the Western Hemisphere (except for Cuba) where the
private sector does not control the politics? This is changing. Groups
like l84 and political parties are involved. But for those of us who
live here and have worked here for the past 35 years, we know that while
the private sector (preferred over the word bourgeois) may be guilty of
not getting involved, (difficult in Haitian society) ..they are the same
people who invest in the country by providing jobs, and contribute
unselfishly and generously to worthwhile projects, education, schools and
charities.
Of course, more could have been done, especially after the Duvalier
era... especially in politics. You don't have to be a politician to be
political.. Support your political party!!!
