If you are a social scientist then you understand the problem of subject
recall and how that would prevent Kolbe and Hutson from surveying the
pre-coup period as accurately as the post-coup period.

Incidentally, Kolbe and Hutson fully disclosed Kolbe's identity and past
work in Haiti to both the Interim Haitian Government, which approved the
study, and the Wayne State human subjects committee, which did not find
it a conflict of interest.

Of course the Latortue government did not like the results of the study
they approved and so Gerard Latortue took it upon himself to attack the
study by calling Kolbe a "trainer of terrorists" -- anything to take
attention away from the human rights victims, eh?
