Thank you anonymous for your transparency and nievete and such a prime age.
It's most precious to me. I first went to Haiti on a church mission in
Cap-Haitian.  I was immediately attracted to the land and the people;
especially how naïve they were. For a person as myself that had done a lot
in life, it was refreshing to see a people that was not corrupted by
commercialism and materialism. You know, keeping up with the Jones; I
wanted it. I went to Haiti every year with the same church and each year
the attraction was stronger and stronger until I found a door to work there
long term.

I married there; to a national. When my husband finally got his visa to see
my homeland, it was just as charming to see him respond to new things. I
still recall with fondness his reaction to escalators at the airport, his
very first experience to them; Miami and the hope of getting a job at a
coffee shop no less, asking them when we sat down for an order how much they
made there (his aspirations are now much larger than that first glimpse of
our economy, I assure you); his first job interview over the telephone and
telling the guy interviewing him to "hang up" until he could give him the
info he was asking for and me rushing and correcting him "no, it's 'hang
on'" (we still laugh about that one) and the one that I had to take special
gentleness to, his reaction to TV shows and movies: he didn't know the
difference between acting and real life. There were painful reactions to
our culture but some precious and enjoyable ones as well.

I also have been wanting to comment to the gentleman that wanted entries to
be spellchecked. I'm assuming that a great percentage of the readers and
posters are Haitian. English is their second language and as a teacher of
ESL - lighten up.

I enjoy all that this list provides; lightness (like anonymous' post today),
lots of facts, news updates, and even a lot of high IQs, enough to give me a
nose bleed.

Thank, everyone!
