From: haitiandialogue@afsc.org
Announcement: Community Forum
The Haitian Constitution 20 Years Later; Where Are We?
"A COMMUNITY DISCUSSION ON THE CHALLENGES OF THE CONSTITUTION AND ON THE ROLE
OF THE DIASPORA IN DEMOCRATIC DEVELOPMENT IN HAITI"
This conference, hosted by the Haitian American Community Dialogue Project of
the American Friends Service Committee in association with the "Fédérations des
Associations Régionales Haïtiennes à l'Etranger-FARHE", will be an opportunity
for community members to learn about the constitution as a necessary tool for
democratic change in Haiti and to consider its weaknesses. It will also touch
upon the way the constitution addresses the diaspora question and the strategic
steps the diaspora community could take to positively influence democratic
change in Haiti. The Conference will feature presentations by experts from
Haiti and the diaspora, including Claude Moise, Michèle Duvivier Pierre-Louis
of FOKAL, and Emmanuel Coffy of FARHE, followed by a facilitated open
discussion that will allow the participants to deepen their understanding of
these issues and to identify how the diaspora might contribute to the country's
democratic development.
The event will be held on Saturday March 24, 2007 from 1:30 to 6:30 PM at the
Holy Cross Church Meeting Room, 2530 Church Avenue
Brooklyn, NY 11226.
Admission is free, but space is limited.
