The Haiti Research Group is very pleased to announce the residency of Dr.
Laënnec Hurbon, distinguished scholar of Caribbean religion, society, and
politics, at the University of Miami April 2-6, 2007.   Dr. Hurbon is Director
of Research at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique in Paris,
France, and is co-founder of Université Quisqueya in Port-au-Prince, Haiti,
where he is a professor.

Dr. Hurbon will give a public lecture on “African Diasporic Religion and
Generation” on Wednesday 4 April at 4:30 pm in Learning Center 120.   In
addition, there will be a forum led by Dr. Hurbon and Dr. Louis Herns Marcelin
(UM Department of Anthropology) on the creation of the Interuniversity 
Institute
for Social Research of Haiti on Monday 2 April at 3:30 pm, in the Richter
Library 3rd Floor Conference Room.

Dr. Hurbon’s residency is sponsored by the Office of the Senior Vice Provost 
and
Dean of Undergraduate Education, the Department of Anthropology, the Department
of History,  the Africana Studies Program, the Center for Latin American
Studies, the Degree Program in Latin American Studies, and the Department of
Religious Studies.
