Haitian and Dominican Workers have one Future: They must lead and transform
the entire island into a Workers' Paradise. That's why the reactionary
haitian and dominican ruling classes are doing everything in their power to
divide
the Haitian and Dominican Workers. The ultra-racist and ultra-nationalist
fascists in the Dominican Republic' s ruling classes and government, with
Leonel Fernandez Reyna, member of the Dominican Liberation Party at the head,
swear on their mothers' graves to instigate hatred and racism of the most
extreme
type toward the Haitian Workers in the Dominican Republic. Meanwhile, they
need Haitian Slave Labor like dry land in need of water. They are desperate
for Haitian cheap labor. They make millions in profits on the backs of Haitian
Immigrant Workers. The Dominican economy rests primarily on Haitian Immigrant
Workers. The Dominican Republic reaps $800 million annually in trade with
Haiti alone. The Dominican capitalists behave just like classical orthodox
slave masters. Slave masters had to convince themselves that the slaves were
not
humans and developed mechanisms to make the slaves think they were not
humans. The dominican capitalists, politicians, "intellectuals", faith-based
authorities in the catholic hierarchy are part of this filth dehumanizing
Haitian
Workers and Dominicans of Haitian Descent. Even the so-called left in the
Dominican Republic is collaborating in this shameful degradation of our
Working Class Brothers and Sisters across the border. The Dominican left has
accommodated itself so much with the electoral status quo in the Dominican
Republic that it is castrated and becomes unable to offer an alternative
orientation
to the Dominican Workers and toiling masses. For them, this is always a
"complicated" issue. When it comes to defending workers' rights firmly and
effectively, the Dominican and Haitian left are in the same trash. They are
all
trailing and wooing the bourgeoisie on both sides of the border.
The Dominican government has a lot of nerves crying out about a so-called
international campaign to accuse it. Accuse it of what? Nobody is accusing the
Dominican government of anything. The facts are there for all to see for
themselves. The Dominican government and reactionary ruling classes much as
the
ruling classes around the world need to be civilized-an impossible task, of
course. Just felt like saying it. They are dead wrong, illegal, in violation
of
every international convention, in violation of their own constitution in
their treatment of the Haitian Immigrant Workers and Dominicans of Haitian
origin. They want to keep the labor pool devalued by not providing any
mechanisms for legalizing the workers so much so that they can continue to
exploit
them without mercy.
They must respect the Haitian Immigrant Workers and provide all Persons born
in the Dominican Republic Dominican citizenship and Birth Certificates.
There is no ifs and buts about it. This is not a question of Dominican
sovereignty. It is a question of Human Rights and Birth Rights. You can't
bluff anyone
on that issue. The Dominican government and ruling classes must stop circling
around this issue. They must back off and move aggressively to correct this
situation immediately.
There has been a picket line in front of the Dominican Consulate in New York
City every First Thursday of the Month for the past year and a half to
demand respect for the rights of the Haitian Immigrant Workers and Dominicans
of
Haitian Descent in the Dominican Republic. And it is not part of the $30
million campaign to "accuse" the Dominican Republic of enslaving Haitians.
However, these pickets will continue whether this campaign is launched or not.
The
next picket will be on Thursday April 5, 2007 - 5:30 - 6:30, 1501 Broadway
between 43rd and 44th Streets in Manhattan. It is about time that people show
their concerns in action and not simply in words on the Corbett list.
