Much of what you said concerning the Haitian Immigrant Workers in the
Dominican Republic is true regardless of what the apologists of the racist
Dominican government say. However, your statement below does not take into
account
the issue in its totality. Historically, there has been complicity between the
Dominican and Haitian States, government and bourgeois to facilitate the
smuggling of Haitians in a human trafficking ring to replenish on a regular
basis
a necessary cheap labor pool in the Dominican Republic. The racist
pseudo-nationalist ruling classes and government in the Dominican Republic
want to
keep these workers 'illegal', 'irregular', and 'transient' and in slavery
conditions to justify the extreme exploitation, xenophobic hysteria and
violence
against them. The same rights we are fighting to get for all immigrants,
including Dominicans, in the United States, are the same rights we are
fighting to
get for Haitian Immigrant Workers in the Dominican Republic. Injustice
anywhere is a threat for Justice everywhere (Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King,
Jr.).
Those words have the weight of International Law and Moral Law. Immigrant
advocates in the United States are saying, 'No one is illegal' on behalf of
all
immigrants in the United States, including Dominicans, Haitians and others. We
need to internationalize this movement. Workers should be respected everywhere
on this Planet. They are the ones who create value and wealth. The Dominican
government and bourgeois know it. Who are they bluffing?
So, Emmanuel, according to your logic, the Haitian government must call on
all so-called, Haitian 'illegal' immigrants to return to Haiti because they
are being mistreated wherever they are. How about fighting for the respect of
their rights in whatever country they are by building alliances with the
progressive forces and advocates in that country? Rights are fought for and are
not given on a silver platter.
