***Replacement for our November 12, 1999 Press Release***
Mobilization Against Crackdown on Haitians in the Dominican Republic (D.R.)
This past week has witnessed a massive and brutal deportation of
thousands of Haitian and Dominican Blacks across the border to Haiti by the
Dominican Government. Hundreds of families are being torn apart and small
children are left alone on the streets to fend for themselves. Former
President Joaquin Balaguer’s party, the PRSC (Social Christian Reformist
Party), has called for a major demonstration on Saturday November 20, 1999
in the D.R. against
what they are calling the “Haitian Invasion” which threatens to “pollute
Dominican blood”. Similar hysteria led to the 1937 slaughter by the
Dominican military of more than 30,000 Haitians then living and working in
the D.R..
To counter this racist and potentially genocidal movement, concerned
Haitian, Dominican, and progressive groups and individuals of all
nationalities in the New York area have come together to seek and promote
humane and rational responses to the current crisis.
Press Conference:
Date: Tuesday, November 16, 1999
Time: 11am
Location: DC 1707, 75 Varick Street, 14th Floor, New York, NY
(entrance at 431 Canal Street)
Counter-demonstration:
Date: Saturday, November 20, 1999
Time: 11am-3pm
Location: In front of the Dominican Consulate
(Broadway and 43rd Street, New York, NY)
We call on the Dominican Government to immediately:
-Stop the racist discrimination and the deportation of Blacks
-Respect the human rights of the Haitian workers
-Ensure that Haitians residing in the country enjoy the same rights and
benefits as all other residents
-Attribute full citizenship to the children born of Haitian parents on
Dominican soil

Mobilizasyon kont Maspinay sou Ayisyen nan Dominikani
Nan senmenn ki sot pase a, Gouvènman nan peyi Panyòl mare tankou bèt epi
pimpe nan peyi DAyiti plizyè milye Ayisyen ak Dominiken pou tèt yo se nèg
nwè. Yo ranmase moun nwa nan tout lari san fanmi yo pa konnen ki kote yo ye.
Timoun fanmi sa yo lage tankou pitimi san gadò. Pati politik Ansyen Prezidan
30,000 Ayisyen.
Pou kwape mouvman rasis epi san manman sila ki kapab lakòz yon lòt 1937
ankò, gen yon tèt kole Ayisyen, Dominiken, ansanm ak lòt moun konsekan ki
chita pou chache jwenn epi pwopoze solisyon ki respekte moun nan mitan nouvo
kriz sila.
Nou lanse apèl pou Konferans pou Laprès:
Dat: Madi, 16 Novanm, 1999
Lè: 11am
Ki Kote: DC 1707, 75 Varick Street, 14th Floor, New York, NY
(rantre sou 431 Canal Street)
Nou lanse apèl pou yon manifestasyon:
Dat: Samdi 20 Novanm, 1999
Lè: 11am-3pm
Ki Kote: Devan Konsila Dominiken nan New York
(Broadway ak 43rd Street, New York, NY)
Nou mande Gouvènman Dominiken an pou li prese prese:
-Sispann diskriminasyon rasis la ak depòtasyon Ayisyen ak Dominiken nwa
-Respekte dwa moun travayè Ayisyen yo
-Asire ke Ayisyen ki rezidan nan peyi sa a rive jwi menm dwa ak
avantaj ak tout lòt rezidan peyi sila a
-Bay tout pitit Ayisyen ki fèt sou tè Dominiken sitwayènte peyi sila a
