Haitian-Dominican Town Meeting

The brutal deportations were suspended last week, in time for the conference 
of African, Asian and Caribbean heads of state in Santo Domingo.  They are 
expected to resume as early as next week.

For the first time in history, the Dominican people have publicly shown their 
opposition to the persecution of Haitians and descendants of Haitians in the 
Dominican Republic.  They boycotted a racist anti-Haitian rally organized by 
right-wing politicians on November 20th in Santo Domingo.  The same day in 
New York, Dominicans came out strongly in a joint Haitian-Dominican protest 
at the Dominican Consulate in Times Square.  This time, it was the Haitian 
community that was lagging behind.  What must be done, for the Haitian 
community to stand up against this national shame?

The crisis between Haiti and the Dominican Republic can be solved if the two 
peoples unite and put pressure on the two governments to make them take their 
responsibility seriously.  What role must the Haitian diaspora in New York 
play, for this to happen?

Let your voice be heard!  Come to the town meeting on Sunday!

   --  Amnesty for all immigrants in the Dominican Republic;
   --  Citizenship rights for Dominican-born children of Haitian workers;
   --  Justice, human rights and reparations for those facing deportation.
