TREADLE SEWING MACHINES
We used to purchase treadle sewing machines, leather belts and other
parts for a variety of models at a Singer Sewing Machine store on the
east side of Grand Rue (Blvd. Jn. Jacques Dessalines), Port-au-Prince. 
Couldn't put my hand on a receipt with exact address at this time but I
believe it is south of Rue Pavee.  I hope they are still in business.

HAITIAN DOLLAR
The short answer to your Haitian dollar question is that technically the
Haitian "dollar" does not exist.  Banking in Haiti is done in gourdes
unless you have a special US dollar account.  What some people call "one
dollar" is really "cinq gourdes."  Referring to the Haitian monetary
system, the term "dollar" has remained in many people's vocabulary from
the days prior to the 1970s when the US dollar and the Haitian 5 gourdes
were on a par and were both called dollar.
