Protesters block Haiti's main highway

Port-au-Prince, CANA - Protesters forced drivers from
cars at gunpoint and blocked main highways in the
Caribbean nation of Haiti yesterday in an election-related
dispute between two towns, police said. "They
blocked the road, and took car keys from about 15
different drivers," a police official said. Armed men from
Cabaret blocked the highway leading north just before
dawn to protest a decision by election officials to
give the nearby town of Arcahaie jurisdiction over the
village of Boucassin.

More Haitians turn up in Bahamas

Nassau, Bahamas, CANA - Some 41 Haitian refugees

held just off a beach last night. The Nassau Guardian
newspaper said today that the arrival of this group
follows 54 who came ashore Saturday. The group
held last night comprised 30 men and 11 women.
