CARICOM considers crisis in Haiti

Bridgetown, Barbados, CANA - The Caribbean Community
(CARICOM) is giving serious consideration to the possibility
of mounting an emergency fact-finding mission to Haiti,
ministerial sources said here yesterday. The mission was
recommended against the backdrop of post-election
problems that affect the formation of a new government
in that French and Patois-speaking republic of some seven
million people. Among countries of the international
community showing an interest in such an initiative by
CARICOM, whose 14 independent members states include
Haiti, is Canada, the sources reported.
