#4950: More on Election Results (fwd)

From: Max Blanchet <MaxBlanchet@worldnet.att.net>

I have also checked the results of the elections
of April 6, 1997.

Here again the source is Libète, May7 - 13, 1997, # 239,

pages 5 - 10.

Here are the results for two departments:

LWÈS

NAME PARTY	VOTES %
LASSEGUE Marie Laurence	PLB	36,404	30.66
NEPTUNE Yvon FL	30,056	25.31
PARENT J.J. Clark PADEMH	11,796 9.93
DAMUS Pierre Gasner	OPL	10,187 8.58
LEGROS	Michel RANFÒ	10,172 8.57
BOUZI Jean Lionel PAPP 6,205 5.23
ANDRE Jean Max MOP 3,798 3.20
JEAN-PIERRE Erl Rudolph	INDP 2,377 2.00
BELLERICE Jean Auguste	PENH 1,902 1.60
DUMAS Jean Arnold	PNDT 1,542 1.30
ADAM Joseph Leon CDSH 1,461 1.23
JEANTY Louis Eddy	INDP 1,262 1.06
Total 118,736

In 1997, the totality of the votes for all candidates was
taken into account to compute the percentage for each
candidate. Thus, LASSEGUE obtained:
 36,404x100/118,736 or 30.66%.

LASSEGUE and NEPTUNE would have had to go to a
second round.

SIDÈS

CELESTIN J. M. Fourel	FL	26,131	51.88
PIERRE-LOUIS Serge	OPL	12,608	25.03
MARTINEZ Jean-Robert	INDP 6,738	13.38
MATHIEU Remy INDP 3,136 6.23
JEAN-BAPTISTE, Joel	INDP 1,754 3.48
Total 50,367

Accordingly, CELESTIN would have won outright.

Note here that the total was not adjusted since only one seat
was at stake.

These elections were cancelled following the publication
of the Lissade Commission report which undermined their
credibility.

LET ME STRESS ONCE AGAIN THAT IN 1997, THE
METHODOLOGY USED IN MAY 2000 WHICH TOOK
INTO ACCOUNT ONLY THE VOTES OF THE TOP
FOUR VOTE GETTERS WAS NOT USED.
