                                HAITIAN LIFESTYLE

The natural creativity of the Haitian people will be the focus of an exhibit
in the Skylight Room of the Puck Building, 295 Lafayette Street, New York
City. Sponsored by The First Lady of the Republic of Haiti, Mrs. Geri
Benoit-Preval, the Permanent Mission of Haiti to the United Nations, and the
Institute for Women Entrepreneurs (IFE), "Haitian Lifestyle" represents the
work of hundreds of artists and artisans throughout the entire country.
The exhibit, featuring hand crafted furniture and home accessories, will be
open to the trade by appointment only from 2 to 8 p.m. October 25; to the
public 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. October 26, and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. October 27.  On
the last day of the exhibit, October 27, all items will be offered for sale.
The proceeds of the sale will go to IFE, a multi-faceted organization located
in Port-au-Prince with the common objective of preserving and advancing
Haiti's unique culture of artistic creativity by creating and expanding
women's micro-enterprises.
Items included in the exhibit range from sequined Voodoo Flags to an upscale
iron glass-topped table designed by one of Haiti's most sophisticated
artists. Masters of recycling, craftsmen apply their skills to room
dividers, shelf units, beds and chairs, while displaying explosions of
Caribbean color in hand painted cedar boxes in all sizes and shapes along
with place mats, coasters, pencil holders, or other desk items. Hand
embroidery and applique techniques will be featured in abundance in bed
treatments, tablecloths, and napkins.
