HAITI___ SEVEN KILLED IN CAPITAL IN DRIVE-BY SHOOTINGS

In what may be a preview of the weeks leading to the Nov. 26
presidential elections, seven people were shot dead and several others
were injured in separate incidents throughout the capital over the
weekend. On Friday night, gunmen opened fire on passengers in a bus
station in Port-au-Prince, killing four and injuring 10. Police suspect
the incident involved rival gangs. Several similar drive-by shootings
took place throughout the capital, with three other deaths reported.
Elsewhere, seven people suffered gunshot and knife wounds in the
central plateau when supporters of former president Jean-Bertrand
Aristide, the leading candidate for president, clashed with opponents of
his Family Lavalas party.
