8014: Hispaniola (fwd)

According to a 1934 article by Edmond Mangones, it was the "U.S. Geographic 
Board" that adopted the term Hispaniola.  I don't think he said the 
Dominicans were behind it, but he did mention a protest by the Dominican 
Academy of History to the effect that Santo Domingo was its preferred term, 
although Hispaniola was better than 'another unpleasant alternative.'  The 
Dominican National Teaching Council added that the term Haiti would be 
unacceptable to most Dominicans.
