Yes, in my humble opinion, you should try to learn kreyol. I took
14 years of French, but was so poor at it that kreyol came
slightly easier.

There are teachers of kreyol - that's how I did it. I can give
you the name - not of a teacher - but a person who has contacts.
Somewhat depends on where you will be living as to whom to get.
