9778: Re: Movie project of the life of Toussaint L'Ouverture (fwd)

From: Antoine Blanc <amprblanc@yahoo.fr>

The other day I heard on Radio France Internationale an interview with the
filmmaker Euzhan Palcy, from Martinique, who directed “Rue Case Nègre”
(Sugar Cane Alley) in 1983 and “A White Dry Season” in 1987 (with Marlon
Brandon).
She said she's working on 2 new films, one of them being about the life of
Toussaint Louverture.
She did not mention the Danny Glover + Jonathan Demme project but said that,
although working for years with the Hollywood majors, she prefers to have
this film produced in Europe and not in the U.S.A. because the story
concerns the European and the Caribbean nations, not the U.S. people.
Also, being unable to get the Hollywood $$ -- for the reasons mentioned by
Médard or others --, she is most probably relying on the EU taxpayers money
available through the European movie industry aid system.
