Jean,
You are probably speaking about the "desounen" which consists in removing 
one's lwa from its corporal wrapping. 
I don't know the exact english translation, just the original word in 
"langaj" which is as I wrote above: "desounen". The word comes from the 
Fongbe language of Benin where "desouni" means the person for whom the 
"desou" was made, "desou" meaning the "funeral sacrifices".
