Has anyone ever heard this theory: the sacrifice was not of an actual pig
but rather of one of the slavemasters?  Animals/leaves are sometimes used in
songs to refer to humans.  The sacrifice of a "colon" at this ceremony
served to debunk the myth that they were superior, did not die like everyone
else, and to focus those involved in the revolution to the task at hand, to
further rally them around the call of "koupe tèt, boule kay".  Suggestions
as to Bookman's faith and the sacrifice of this "pig" might not have been in
contradiction, if this were the case.
I've heard this from Vodou priests.  It sounds contoversial.  Should it be
simply dismissed?
