a1021: Arthur comments on Dorce on Hudicourt on Pina (fwd)

I join in with the others who have written to protest against the remarks
equating Guyler Delva of the Haitian Journalists' Association with those who
want to overthrow the government, and the suggestion that therefore he should
be somehow punished. The latest example of this was Kathy Dorce's post which
linked Guyler Delva to the idea of treason:

<< we are talking about treason, which
in many countries may be punishable by death. The Webster's dictionary
defines treason as follows: 2 : the offense of attempting by overt acts to
overthrow the government of the state to which the offender owes allegiance
or to kill or personally injure the sovereign or the sovereign's family. >>

If by defending the interests and personal safety of journalists, the head of
the Journalists' Association is then guilty of involvement in overt acts to
overthrow the government, then it would seem that the next step must be to
dismantle all organisations that are independent of the government. In the
late 1950s and early 1960s, an earlier government of Haiti did this. Perhaps
this is what Rene Civil, Paul Raymond and the ilk would like to see happen
again?
