Canada not pushing for Haiti's suspension

Bridgetown, Barbados, CANA - Canada is not pushing
for Haiti's suspension from the Organisation of Americas
States (OAS), a leading Canadian government official has
said.

"We've not talked of expulsion, we've not talked of
suspension, we've not talked of any other measures,"
Ronald Duhamel, Secretary of State in the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs and the Canadian government spokesman
on Haiti told CANA late Wednesday.

Duhamel said Ottawa was aware of the reports of
irregularities in last month's legislative and municipal elections
and had sent a special envoy to Port au Prince to investigate
the reports.
