Gore won the U.S. presidency by about 6,600 votes, giving him the state of
Florida. He, of course, had won the "meaningless" popular vote. Nixon may
have won the presidency -- maybe-- over Kennedy, but refused to demand a
recount. In Haiti, the opposition was going to loose no matter what it
did. It is too bad that it could not be accomodated nonetheless with
reference to these ten seats in the Senate. Lavalas weakened itself where
it counts the most, with the paramount powers. Typically, Haitian
governments since early 20th century, have been most aware in placating
the United States and other more powerful states.
