President Aristide gets proposals for ending crisis
Port-au-Prince, Haiti, CANA - Some sections of civil society and a faction
of the opposition in strife-torn Haiti have presented embattled President
Jean Bertrand Aristide with a number of proposals for ending the political
crisis in the country.
The proposals were submitted to the president during a meeting he called
with the various interest groups Thursday to get their suggestions on how
to resolve the social and political unrest in this impoverished
French-speaking
Caribbean nation. Proposals, particularly by an opposition faction are
calling
for the cancellation of the entire 2000 elections which brought Aristide and
his
Lavallas Party to power.
