Canadian kidnapping victim pays ransom, released in Haiti

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti -- (AP) -- A Canadian citizen who owns a local
internet cafe was released in exchange for a ransom four days after being
kidnapped, the victim said Saturday.

``It happened to me, but it can happen to you, to anybody,'' said Jonas
Guillaume, 34, who was released Friday night.

Guillaume returned to his native Haiti from Canada in 1997, when he opened
his suburban Petionville cybercafe, Computer World.

Unidentified gunmen kidnapped Guillaume Tuesday morning, when he got into
his parked vehicle, a few steps from the cafe.

He had been relatively well-treated until his release in a Port-au-Prince
residential neighborhood, Guillaume said. Friends and relatives paid the
dlrs 70,000 ransom. His vehicle has not been recovered and there have been
no arrests.

The businessman was one of three people who were kidnapped last week.
