Informational Fair for Haitian Elders

The Haitian Elders Task Force will be hosting an Informational Fair on
Thursday, May 17 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Legion Park just one block east
of Biscayne Boulevard at 64th Street in Miami’s Upper East Side. Nonprofit
and governmental agencies have been invited to set up informational booths
to display their brochures and other materials. Staff members from each
agency will also be on hand to answer questions from the community.
Organizers expect between 300 and 400 people to attend. Lunch will be
served.

Many Haitian elders in Miami-Dade County have had to confront various
problems as they adjust to life in South Florida. Unfortunately,
information regarding social services and other resources to assist elders
goes unheard or is inaccurate. Accurate information regarding immigration,
health care, English classes, recreation, job opportunities and benefits
will be provided during the fair. The fair will provide an opportunity to
address the unique needs of Haitian elders by providing information about
available resources and how to access them.

The Haitian Elders Task Force is a coalition of community based and public
organizations and is co-sponsored by the Haitain American Foundation, Inc.
and the Allaince for Aging, Inc. For further information, please contact
Fran Oliva at Alliance for Aging at (305) 670-6500 ext. 242. or Rose Lucas
at (305) 758-3338
