8049: Gran Bwa (fwd)
From: RidgeArt@aol.com
Regarding Gran Bwa, he is often represented by the Catholic chromolithograph of St. Sebastian who was martyred by having lots of arrows shot at him while being tied to a tree, but this is purely a visual connection in the same way that Damballah is represented by St. Patrick and his association with snakes. Gran Bwa is also the spirit of the Mapou tree which is the sacred tree in Vodou that connects the world of the living with the world of the ancestors and the lwa. The centerpole in a Vodou temple represents the Mapou and is the highway the lwa travel to visit the world of the living.
