ACM HOSTS PRESS CONFERENCE ON HAITI
Port of Spain, Mar 12, 2002 – The Association of
Caribbean Media Workers will be hosting a Press
Conference on Wednesday March 13, 2002 at Ebony
Radio
104 FM at 8.30 a.m.
ACM President, Wesley Gibbings, and Vice
President,
Bert Wilkinson of the Guyana Press Association
will
discuss the recent ACM Mission to Haiti and
recommendations for addressing the problems of
Haitian
journalists.
The Press Conference will be broadcast live in
several
Caribbean countries and local journalists will be
joined by reporters in Haiti, Antigua, Dominica
and
Guyana during the event.

The ACM was invited by the Association of Haitian
Journalists to visit the country in the aftermath
of a
series of attacks on the media including the
murder of
broadcaster Brignol Lindor.
Several journalists have either gone into hiding
or
have sought refugee status in the United States
and
elsewhere.
The ACM is a grouping of national media worker
organisations and individuals in Anguilla, Antigua
&
Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, British Virgin
Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti,
Jamaica,
Martinique, Montserrat, Saint Lucia, St Vincent
and
the Grenadines, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.
