Jan. 29, Mon. Tom Regan's rights rooted in a fundamental intuition and negative arguments 5 Read Tom Regan: THE CASE FOR ANIMALS RIGHTS Write and hand in the first precis. Also in this class there will be Oral presentation by Angeline Van der Waals.
Feb. 1, Thur. Bonnie Steinbeck's attack on The Liberationist and Anti-Speciesist View 6 Read Bonnie Steinbock: SPECIESISM AND THE IDEA OF EQUALITY Also in this class there will be Oral presentation by Dasha Miroshnychenko and Thea Rozopot.
Feb. 5, Mon. Animal rights and welfare rooted in ecological interdependence. In the second hour Corbett will present a paper entitled: The Case Against Zoos. 7 Write and hand in the second precis. Also in this class there will be Oral presentations by Camillo Spiegelfeld and Dennis Varampiov.
Feb. 8, Thur. Visit to the Schonbrunn Zoo 8
Feb. 12, Mon. Mid-term examination 9 Mid-term examination.
Feb. 15, Thur. Papers on the zoo visit 10 Each student is expected to turn in a short paper on the visit. Each student will read his or her paper to the class and discussion will follow.
Feb. 19, Mon. Eating animals and Animal experiementation 11 Oral presentations by Yasar Uenal, Aneta Dimitrijevska and Dennis Varampiov. Each student is required to write and hand in the third precis AS WELL AS THE ARTICLE YOU BASE IT ON.
Feb. 22, Thur. Computer lab for training in Passports 12 Meet in computer lab at 10:30 A.M.
Feb. 26, Mon. Animal Intelligence and morality: Rogers, Lesley. MINDS OF THEIR OWN: THINKING AND AWARENESS IN ANIMAL 13 Read Rogers, pp. 1-68. Write and hand in the fourth precis.. There will also be Oral presentations by Aneta Dimitrijevska, Marko Grgas and Thea Rozopot.
