ASSIGNMENT #1 ON PAULO FREIRE. QUESTIONS ON THE TEXT

These questions cover both chapters we are to read (some 46 pages of the Freire book).

Assignment 5A. Total value = 100 points.

1. The pedagogy of the oppressed has two distinct phases. Explain each in your own words and as clearly as you can.
   (15 points each).

2. "It is only the oppressed who by freeing themselves, can free their oppressors." (Freire)
   

   Develop and explain how his argument in support of this claim works.

   Do not anywhere quote or even paraphrase Freire himself. Rather explain the argument in defense of this claim (as well as the meaning of claim) in your own words.
   (20 points).

3. Freire opposes a "banking" concept of education to a problem-posing concept of education.

   Describe each of these two concepts in your own words and as clearly as you can.
   (15 points each).

4. Directly QUOTE at least two concrete cases which Freire sites as examples of false generosity.
   (10 points each).
