QUIZZES

There will be a series of about 13 quizzes, one at the beginning of each class.

The two main purposes of these quizzes are:

1. To encourage the student to read the material for each day with significant care.
2. To arrive at class on-time.

The quizzes will be given at exactly 10 A.M. They will only take about 5-10 minutes. They will not be given at any other time and missed quizzes will count as zero.

Each quiz will have 5 questions and EACH QUESTION will be graded in the following manner:

• A grade of 5 will mean: a completely perfect reply.
• A grade of 4 will mean: a very strong reply, accurate to the text, but failing in some minor detail or in the expression itself.
• There will be no grade of 3.
• A grade of 2 will mean: Basically accurate, but flaws that a more careful reading of the text should eliminate.
• A grade of 1 will mean: A reply that has some connection to the text, but that reflects some serious misunderstanding of the text, or serious mis-statement of the reply.
• A grade of 0 will mean either that the question was not answered, or was answered in a seriously inadequate sense.

At the end of the semester I will count the 10 best quizzes and that grade will count as 25% of the entire course grade.
