PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION TO WEBSTER UNIVERSITY
This page is primarily intended for Webster University students and faculty
coming to the Webster University Campus in Vienna. However, there is
another page with lots of basic information
on the Vienna public transport system which might well be useful to other travellers
and to Webster folks who want to use the broader public transport system.
- Getting to Webster University, Vienna from anywhere in the city.
- Find the red-line (U1) of the subway system (U-bahn). This should not be
hard. The U-bahn are all over Vienna. Just look for the pole with a white U inside
a blue square. All lines tie together (see general file) and from any U-bahn you can
eventually get to the U1 (red line).
- Take the U-bahn in the direction of Kagran (again, see general file on using
the U-bahn).
- Exit at the stop: Kaisermuhlen / Vienna International Center. Walk down the
steps (there is an elevator at the end of the platform if you have baggage -- to
the right as you get off the U-bahn). Exit the building.
- You now have three options to get to Webster:
- Take a cab. They are in the street just to the right of the station. About
45 schillings to Webster, tip to 50 or 55.
- Walk: Coming out of the station turn left and walk across the small
square, down the steps and through the underground passage. This will bring
you up to Schautaustrausse. Walk the full length of the street, about 6
blocks until it sort of ends at Berchtoldgasse. Turn right on Berchtoldgasse
and go 1 1/2 blocks to Webster U's building.
- Take a bus. Coming out of the station turn right and cross the street next to the station and
you will be at a bus stop. (See general file on taking busses.)
Three busses stop at that stop which can get you close to Webster. The
90A, 91A and 92A. Take the first one which comes.
- 90A: This will come down the main street about 6 stops and then it will
take a LEFT turn. Ring the buzzer and get off immediately. Walk back to
the main street (about 30 yards) and turn left two blocks to Berchtoldgasse
and turn right. Walk 1 1/2 blocks to Webster U.
- 91A or 92A: These will run down the main street about 6 stops and then
turn RIGHT. Ring the buzzer, but the bus with go another several blocks and
make another turn to the left before the next stop. Get off when it stops.
Walk BACK in the direction the bus came for one block and you are at
Webster U. (Go right 1/2 block on Berchtoldgasse to the entrance.)
- Getting inside the building. During normal school days the building is open
from early morning until about 11 P.M. On Saturdays it is usually open until
mid-afternoon. Sundays is problematic.
For other times it is much harder. If you have pre-arranged a meeting, someone
should be there to let you in. Otherwise, go down the street to the corner at
Am Kaisermuhlendamm and turn right to the first door. Ring the bell of the
Resident Life Coordinator and hope someone is there. If not, you're out of luck
and you'll have to come back another time.
- Now, on to the file with lots of basic information
on the Vienna public transport system
