Corkey's Restaurant and Bar Opened March 2001 at Kraft and Manchester. The building located at 6655 Manchester was built in 1908 and was a Budwiser owned Tavern and warehouse. The name of the tavern is unknown.
Corkey's Restaurant and Bar is owned Patrick "Pepe" Khem. Pepe is the son of Raymond "Corkey" Khem and Charolyn Brazill-Khem. Both grew up in Dogtown and attended of St. James the Greater School. Corkey Khem lived on West Park and Carolyn Brazill lived on Childress.
Myself and a few friend and our wives had lunch at Corkey's in November. The food was excellent an at a reasonably priced. Corkey learned his cooking skills in France. That should give you some idea of the quality menu. Corkey's was listed in the Post Dispatch Get Out food section, as one of the 10 best restaurants to get a great stake dinner.
Corkey's Restaurant and Bar is located just about 200 yards east of Alex Failoni's Tavern that is located at 6715 Manchester.
Dorsey's was located on Clayton at Carrins. Carrins was really just a
gravel alley that ran north and south from Clayton to a location behind
Dorsey's. Carrins intersected with Clayton about 100 feet southwest of where
Clayton intersects Oakland.
As I remember from selling newspapers in there, there was a customer and TV sports announcer from
Channel 2 by the name of Jack Buck.
The old city maps show Carrins as a street, but it was never paved.

I believe Gittens was a wooden building that sat on the North East corner of
Manchester and Sulphur. I could be wrong on this one. I am sure the building
was a tavern and perhaps hotel at one time.

It was a fairly large place. K.O was a well known wrestler. His daughter, Mary Ann, was I believe in the class of 56 from Dewey School. In the late 40's, the parking lot, when filled with cars and Harley Davidson,s , would look a bit like a scene from the movie Grease. The site is now a Hardees.
The Little White House. This is a real Dogtown type bar, owned by people from Dogtown. I believe the bar fixture's came from the "White House" Taveren that had been at Clayton and Graham during the 40's and 50's.
This very popular bar has excellent parking at Manchester and Sulphur. The prices are excellent, and the service is even better. On Friday's Nick's has a guitar player that sings Irish music. For drinking, this is the best place in the Dogtown area. They are open late at night.
Nick's Pub is a brick building at 6001 Manchester. It sits at the North West
corner of Manchester and Sulphur. Nick's is owned by John and Maryann McDonald. The name "Nick" comes from
their son who is about 5 years old.
Prior to being Nick's, the place was Pelches Pub. I forget the name of the
guy that owned Pleches. He was a graduate of St.Louis University and had
been a wholesale furniture salesman. He should have stayed in the furniture
business. He was the last owner to have a steam table in that location.
Prior to being Nick's, it was as you suggested, Frank's. I cashed my first
pay check from Paulo Products Company at Frank's in June of 1964.

On Hampton, at Oakland, just south of Yankee Grill there was a bar owned by Mr. Schmid who also owned Yankee Grill. His son, Jim Schmid was in the St. James class of 58. That site is now the location of a Pizza place.
