Two schools created by Haitians, J.B. Damier and Elie Dubois, were based
on that model. This is not new. Despite these forebears, the Haitian
elites were opposed to the U.S. occupation focusing its attention away
from liberal arts toward vocational education, repeating the Black U.S.
debates between W.E.B. DuBois (related to Elie Dubois) and Booker T.
