Soliel d'Hiver Haitian Art Exhibition and  Fundraiser to be Held at
Wyndham Milwaukee Center Atrium

MILWAUKEE, March 27 /PRNewswire/ -- A Haitian art exhibition and sale
willbe held on Saturday, April 22 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Wyndham
Milwaukee Center Atrium, downtownMilwaukee, to benefit a hospital in
Haiti with local ties.The Soliel d'Hiver (meaning ``winter sun'' in
French) benefit will feature over 150 pieces of painting, sculpture and
iron work by some of Haiti's best-known artists.The event will include
Caribbean food, drink and a steel band at the Wyndham's elegant atrium
at 139 E. Kilbourn Avenue and will benefit the Hopital Albert Schweitzer
in Deschapelles, Haiti.The hospital was conceived from a correspondence
between William Larimer Mellon and the renowned humanitarian, Dr. Albert
Schweitzer. Inspired by the work of Dr. Schweitzer in Gabon, Africa,
Mellon attended medical school, received his MD, and in 1956, together
with his wife, Gwen Grant Mellon built a hospital to fill the
health care void in Haiti.Today, Hopital Albert Schweitzer has expanded
its services to not only address emergency health care needs but is
now an integrated health care system serving larger community issues
such as immunization, clean water, livestock care, and economic
development.In addition to the mostly Haitian hospital staff, Hopital
Albert Schweitzer currently attracts top volunteer medical
professionals from places like the Mayo Clinic, Yale and Harvard to
serve a population of more than 285,000.Gwen Grant Mellon still works
daily at the hospital continuing the dream she began with her husband
nearly 50 years ago. Her work has been featured in recent years in
People Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, The Pittsburgh Tribune Review
and various other publications.The grandson of Gwen Grant Mellon, Andrew
Rawson, now lives and works in the Milwaukee area and is active
with the hospital.

Friends of Hopital Albert Schweitzer (FHASH) is a non-profit entity with
the sole purpose of serving Hopital Albert Schweitzer. They have
conducted similar art shows in Pittsburgh and Atlanta with much success.
This will be the first event for FHASH in Milwaukee.
