#4800:Re: #4782: the economy and exchange rates(fwd)
From:PPARYSKI@aol.com
Since Haiti imports a majority of what its people eat, especially wheat,
edible oil, rice and sugar, not to mention what is sold in the supermarket
and all the manufactured goods and most energy, deflation is disastrous for
the Haitian people particularly the poor. The rich just raise the prices of
what they sell or on occasion make. Recently the largest sources of foreign
currency have been drugs and drug spin offs, and international assistance. A
rather sad situation. Those who have large sums of money tend to export it
instead of investing it in Haiti. Also sad.
