1.  First-hand:  In Ft. Liberté, a peasant was asked how to identify a
loup-garou.  His answer: "If you see a horse going down the road and it
turns off and goes into a house, you know it is a loup-garou."

answered in Wade Davis' book Passage of Darknes: The Ethnobiology of the
Haitian Zombie, Univ. of North Carolina Press, 1988 (available through
Amazon.com in paperback).  A scholarly study not to be confused with his
popular Serpent and the Rainbow.
