a209: Re: a202: solid book on Haiti (fwd)

I've seen a number of books by some of the authors you name on e-bay for very little money. You can also try the "z-shops" on Amazon. I picked up a copy of Paul Farmer's "Uses of Haiti" in excellent condition at one of those stores.

If you want to read a book from a VERY interesting perspective, you might want to try Stan Goff's "Hideous Dream." Stan was a special forces officer during the intervention, but with a twist - he's a committed socialist who was cashiered from the U.S. Army for his activities in Haiti. (He greatly exceeded his orders in his active support for Lavalas.)

Now, if you've read any of my posts you'll know I don't agree with Goff's views in any way, shape or form. But it's a pretty good read from the point of view of a true believer. And there are damn few of those left.
