Lois (and others interested):  the book has been available for some
time.  You could get it through AMAZON.COM (easy ordering) or probably
through Jasmine Narcisse, who has replaced Max Manigat for the Haitian Book
Centre:  <order@haitianbookcentre.com>.

For the purposes of francophone readers, Jean Jonassaint has just published
an excellent new book (his revised doctoral thesis), the most recent and
extensive study of Haitian novels:
         Jean Jonassaint, DES ROMANS DE TRADITION HAITIENNE.  SUR UN RECIT
TRAGIQUE              (Montreal/Paris:  Editions CIDIHCA/L'Harmattan, 2002.
The study is somewhat selective (not a comprehensive treatment of all
novels by Haitian writers) and its basic premisse is that a tragic esthetic
lies behind a large number of Haitian novels.  I am not sure whether this
is available in the U.S. yet since it has just appeared, but it is
available from the website of the "FNAC" in
Paris:  http://www.fnac.com   (you can use a U.S. credit card in
ordering--conversion is at current rates for the Euro).
