14365: Chamberlain on "with the people" postings (fwd)

All this bogus "I'm with the people" stuff on the list is getting a bit too
much.

Let's be blunt about it:  the authors are exclusively white and foreign.
They will never have to suffer what the ordinary Haitian has to suffer.
They may have some passing interest, but they have an air ticket out of the
country. In other times and other places, they were known as "revolution
tourists."

The people whose lives are in danger are Haitians in Haiti and they aren't
on this list.  They can't afford to buy a computer and don't have the few
dollars to go to a cybercafé.  Most can't even read.  And those on this
list who are really helping the people are mostly lurkers, because they're
too busy helping and doing.
