Greetings all,

This is a forwarded announcement which was prepared by
the Justice Committee of the National Congress for
Puerto Rican Rights.

STOP THE ABUSE!

2003 has had a rough beginning for our community. We
as a community have faced three recent deaths, in only
one week into the New Year, to police. And we must
respond! We face budget cuts, unemployment, INS
detention, and war, and in all this the police abuse
continues to terrorize our communities. We fought
during the Giuliani years because of harsh policing
techniques, and we need to continue to tell Mayor
Bloomberg that it will not be tolerated any further.

It is now one year since James Muirhead and Joseph
Thompson of the NYPD's 67th Precinct murdered
23-year-old Haitian immigrant Georgy Louisgene. As he
usually does, Charles Hynes, the Brooklyn District
Attorney,
has decided not to press any charges against those
murderers. They are still working for the police force
"serving and protecting" the public.

Wednesday January 15th, 2003 7PM-10PM
Community forum at PS 399, 2707 Albemarle Rd. at
Rogers Ave., in Brooklyn Film screening on police
brutality. Parents of other victims as well
as activists fighting against police brutality will be
present. Among the artists who will be there to
perform will be Charles "Bigga Haitian" Dorismond
(Patrick Dorismond's brother) who will perform from
his new CD which includes songs dedicated to Patrick
and Georgy.

Thursday January 16th 2003 4PM-9PM
Candle light vigil and speak out in front of 3501
Foster Ave., between New York Ave. and Brooklyn Ave.,
in Brooklyn, at the site where Georgy was murdered a
year ago.

As Anibal Carrasquillo, 21, was walking down Inwood
Street in Brooklyn, NY, he was stopped by police
officers. They stopped him as a routine "Quality of
Life" stops. Police alleged that he was peering into
cars and acting "suspicious". Although P.O. Calderon
claimed he fired at Anibal because he went into a
"shooter's stance." An autopsy revealed that the youth
was shot in the back. Anibal was unarmed.
The police officer claims that Anibal was in a
shooting stance and for that reason he shot him.
However, for a person to be in a shooting stance the
person would have to be facing the person he was going
to shoot.
Anibal was shot in the back as if he was running away.
He was clearly not in a shooters stance.
After Anibal's mother, Milta Calderon, hired a private
investigator, she found out that her son's body was
moved from where it initially fell after the shooting.
The reason was because Anibal was shot in front of a
well know politicians house. This is tampering with
the evidence.
In the grand jury the police officers were the only
ones interviewed. There were no witnesses who were
brought to the stand to testify. In honor of Junior's
memory, please join the Carrasquillo Family, friends,
and community members. Let us unite to stop police
brutality and stand up for justice!!
