15779: Saint-Vil: Seeking Update on Borgela Philistin's case (fwd)
From: Jean Saint-Vil <jafrikayiti@hotmail.com>
Can someone please inform us whether the Haitian government has done
anything to help with the legal counsel of Borgela Philistin? I am aware
that a delegation of human rights activists went to Haiti recently seeking
help for this Haitian man on death row in the U.S. But has anything much
transpired since then?
>From what I read on this website devoted to the case,
http://www.borgela.org/defence.html,
there are VERY serious allegations that the Black attorney who was assigned
his case proved himself to be totally incompetent AND claimed to have
received death threats over the course of the trial, encouraging him to do
close to nothing to adequately represent his client.
In view of the terrifying story of Clarence Brandley
http://www.jewdonboney.com/brandleyhome.html, the Hurricane Carter and
countless other Africans legally assassinated in the U.S. in recent years,
these allegations of intimidation and gross injustice carried out in Borgela
Philistin’s case do deserve the attention of justice loving people. We must
know whether they are false or true.
Is the NCHR (National Coalition for Haitian Rights) doing anything to help
Borgela Philistin get a fair trial? What about the Haitian government? Can
anyone on this list please provide an update on these matters and help us in
our thirst to find out the truths of this case?
Sincerely,
Jafrikayiti
