2nd Annual KreyolFest Hits Wingate Park, Brooklyn with Top Haitian Bands

BROOKLYN - The Haitian Times' quest to bridge the gap brings us once
again the 2nd annual KreyolFest on June 29th, 2003, this time utilizing
one of richest cultural aspects of the Haitian community. With a hot
musical line up and hot food, KreyolFest promises to satisfy both your
taste buds and your "dance buds".
This year KreyolFest brings Beethova Obas, Boukman Eksperyans, Dega,
Dekwochay, Djakout Mizik, Konpa Kreyol, Tabou Combo and Zin! The
thought of this melange of musical genres within the Haitian Music
industry is in line with the Haitian Times' mission of "Bridging the
Gap" says publisher, Garry Pierre-Pierre. The aim to have KreyolFest as
an annual event is also in part Haitian Times' efforts to elevate Konpa
music to New York City and its surrounding areas. Kreyolfest has become
the biggest and most consistent event in New York's Haitian community.
"The line up was carefully selected to bring the diversity of Haitian
music onto one state," Pierre-Pierre said. "We want to attract a broad
segment of the community."
To have eight (8) of Haiti's hottest bands on stage performing in one
day is a treat none would dare argue. Local Media has dubbed this event
one of the largest and most informative (not to mention fun) cultural
events in the New York area. Last year KreyolFest rallied about 10,000
people at Prospect Park.
In addition to the musical festivities, festival goers will have access
to an all day health fair where they can check blood pressure, heart
rate and dental check up for their children.
Kreyolfest is made possible in part with the support of Enigma
Promotions and a host of corporate sponsors, including Western Union,
Kings County Hospital, Maimonides Medical Center, Family Medical
Practice and several media partners.
