Richard, I believe with all my heart that you would be criticizing any
government in Haiti using the same arguments as in the Cedras years (or the Duvalier
years, etc...). There is a bigger problem than the one you perceive with
Aristide. It is systemic and I'd really like to know what you think can be done
to change the system of corruption, entitlement and self-preservation (because
if you achieve power in Haiti, everyone else is looking to take you down).
Who would have been able to move Haiti into her rightful place in the
Caribbean? When will Haitians (not just one man all you criticizers seem to think
should have done it alone) come to realize that if they don't put Haiti above
their own fortunes, nothing good can ever happen? I'd like to hear the names of
such men who would escape your veranda criticisms. And why is it you do not
mention the opposition (lower case intended) and their obstructionist
behavior...both dry and bloody? Only one man gets your ire?
Tear it down if you must but what do you replace it with.....a military junta?
